That's great news! Sounds like you're feeding appropriate amounts. The reinforcements will have a nice habitat when they arrive. Keep us posted on your progress.

I received the worms! There were at least 4 times more worms than what I received last time! I have a question about worm color, I noticed all the worms I received yesterday are a dark pink color; but when I look at my first batch of worms that had been in the bin for 10 days, several of them are pale pink/whitish. Does that signal anything? They are lively like normal eventhough their color has gone lighter.

Hey, great job on the start of a new bin! It always seems to me to be the most difficult setting up new and starting out. Good feeding (ie like you have, small amounts, you can't under feed IMHO)is the key. Nice job!

PS I also have a similar stacking setup and like you, put shredded paper down the bottom to help the misguided few to survive, and find about once a month, drain liquid, move all material (bedding, worms etc) from the bottom liquid collection tray back on top of the working tray, then refill with bedding (and I mean full of shredded paper / cardboard, dry of course), repeat as you see fit. Seems to work for me. :-)

So I just opened the lid to check on my worms, and there are several spots with very long white hairy mold. Not knowing better, I scooped out and threw away the moldy patches. But when I dig further, I see more mold with the scraps that I buried on Sunday. So I did a quick search on the net, and realise the worms eat the mold? Is this true? So is this a good thing and I should leave them alone?

p.s. While digging in the bin, I spotted some baby wigglers!

The mold is fine. Mine have eaten some pretty wild looking stuff. Congrats on the babies!!!
