First time bin question

I have a rubbermaid type/size bin that I prepared 2 weeks before I received the worms with newspaper/cardboard/coffee grounds and filters and a small amount of blenderized veggies. I put damp coir on the top, plopped in the squirmmers, put a piece of cardboard on the top and haven't seen or heard a peep since! It's been a couple of weeks now and the mass is going down some.

I guess everything is OK, right? When do I feed them again? I know that it takes a while for them to get established.

I can't tell from here, but I would guess everything is going OK. It may not hurt to prod around a bit and see what things look like down in the bin.

From your description, you can probably feed more now. Blenderized veggies should take about a week to disappear. If you are feeding in small amounts, it does not hurt to feed again before the older food is gone. It takes about 4 days in a new bin for the food to decompose enough for the worms to start to notice it.

My advice: feed again now, maybe a little heavier than last time, top off the bedding a bit, and let the worms have another few undisturbed days to work on the new food.

So, how do you manage to leave a new bin alone? My bin is 8 months old, and I still prod around too much.

Reading the OP, that's the first question that came to mind,"how did you ever managed NOT prod in the bin?"
