Have you asked your local Sheriff's Office or DOC? :)

I can't say, "Oh, go with this name brand", but I can tell you that I want a lock that can be unlocked without using the key. I want a key-pad or something similar.

And since aging-in-place is one thing about which we care a great deal, I'm thinking this might be one thing I'm interested in doing "smart". That is, I think it might be nice to be able to pull up to the house and unlock the door while still in the car. Then it'd be more simple to get in the door with packages.

Oh, but I'm only talking about the "main family entrance", which for most of us means through the garage. For the front door, which the typical homeowner doesn't usually use as an entry-point-with-a-key, I'd go with something safe and secure . . . but I wouldn't pay extra for ease of entry.

I'll be interested to see what other people have to say about locks.

We don't have a full on iron door, but we have iron scrollwork. Matching the iron was important to me. We went with Architectural Ironworks door hardware & deadbolts and have been very happy. They are now called Longleaf Collection. I would think that on an iron door, you would want the deadbolts to blend in, so I would do the deadbolts with the cover on them (that's what we have).Here's a link to their catalog.
