Tell him to use caulking. Most of the color matched caulks are mold and mildew resistant, so that doesn't wash.

I was about to ask this very question--except in the kitchen forum. Newly built house (in 2 months now) and the bottom of the tile back splash's grout (where it meets the granite) is cracking. I was wondering if there was a remedy. So we should use caulking there (in kitchen) too? Does it matter whether it's already been sealed or not?

Caulking should always be used at any change-of-plane areas. Backsplashes are a good example. I would dig the grout out and caulk it with a matching, sanded caulk.

Ok, so what do you do if that area IS caulked, but the caulk keeps cracking? We've re-caulked twice, still cracking. This is in the kitchen... I think the gap between the granite/cabinet and wall is too large or something.
