Space Constrained Problem: Washer & Dryer Recommendations?

Hi,

We are in the process of redesigning our kitchen. This is the only area of the house where the washer and dryer can go. We currently have a side by side KA set about 5 years old that are out in the open. They work great, but are way too large and we want to hide them when they are not being used.

The new design calls for a stacking configuration. We have designed a closet with pocket doors that slide in to the right and the left of the stacked units. To the right is a cabinet depth KA refrigerator and to the left is a wall. The relivance of the refrigerator is that it will be in a 24" depth cabinet, so it would be nice if the washer and dryer could as well.

There are just two of us in the house, so giant units are not necessary. We are trying to hide them when they are not in use with the wall closet.

The two units that I amk considering are:

Washer Bosch Axxis WAS24460UC

Dryer Bosch Axxis WTV76100US

I have read mixed opinions on these units. Is there a better choice in compact 3-4 cu. ft. units? Are these units worth investing into?

There are not too many choices in this size category. I see units from Asko, Blomberg, Fagor, GE, LG, Maytag, Miele, Summit and Whirlpool (Front Loads, >26" deep, and stackable). The Asko and Miele units are almost 2x the price of the Bosch Axxis units.

I have a similar space constraint (coach house, no basement, laundry built in into a smallish space under a set of stairs). We're also a two-person household.

I did a *lot* of research and decided to go with the Miele W3033.

Bought it in March, and love it.

It's about 22-1/2" front to back. Would definitely fit in a 24" deep space.

Yeah, I looked at Bosch, too, but saw a lot of bad reviews. That would've been my second choice, though, if I couldn't find a Miele in my area.

All I was hearing were bad things about the newer Asko machines, which is too bad. Also found it hard to find an Asko dealer in my area, so that wasn't a good sign.

I was extremely lucky and got my Miele as a floor sample for $1490. But if I had to do it all over again and pay full retail, honestly I'd still buy it.

It's quiet, washes wonderfully, and feels very sturdy and well-made. Sill has the stainless steel outer drum, which I like. It truly is a joy to use.

Thanks for sharing your story.

The Miele's that I have seen online (washers and dryers are in the $3,500 to $4,000+ range which is about 2x the Bosch units (~$2,000). It sounds like you got a great deal. Additionally, they are much smaller in capacity than the Bosch units. I am not saying that they are not a great product but that it is a difficult value proposition to digest. I cannot picture laying out so much money for a set.

Anyone have experience with these Bosch units or others?
