I think that is a brilliant idea if the faucet could reach out that far.

I measured my washer and guess that it will take about 12" of faucet to get the stream of water into the tub. But what I noticed is that if the lid is open, the faucet would have to be set wayyy high. Does your lid hinge at the back?

An option would be to add an extra spigot to the water line, then you could have one turned on all the time to the washer, and the other could be turned on when needed. You could attach a small length of hose, then tuck it back behind the washer when not needed.
