I tend to agree about the future of lighting and lightbulbs. When I bought all my new fixtures, I did obscured bulbs. In my last house, they were largely exposed.

This is supposed to be my "forever house" and I don't want to be forever staring at some ugly CFL/LED bulb. And I have to accept that, despite my hoarding, my incandescent bulb stockpile will eventually run out.

I was in a modernist house where this was handled a bit less obviously than the cornice board, and the set up was literally regular sockets that were arranged to provide fairly even light and not be visible in the room unless you went over to the wall and looked up and back, with your face almost against the wall.

The restrooms in my one work place (a midcentury office midrise) has the same type of thing and it actually provides a nice even light.

They will probably allow some kind of low voltage candelabra bulbs to remain on the market, but these are not used so much for bright general lighting...
