I am partial to red doors but I think a color to match your hardwood floors would be nice.

No matter what you do it's never going to match your floors because they're different woods - you won't get that dark graining on the door and the natural color of the woods is different to begin with. I'd be afraid that trying to match will always look like a swing and a miss. If it were MY door, I'd make them different enough that it's clear matching was never the hope. In your first picture I thought the door might even be painted yellow and that looks lovely with your blue gray siding.

IMO, you can never go wrong with Golden Oak stain.

I'd clear coat or lightly wood stain the door, inside and out, for now. On down the line, when it needs refreshing, you can paint it then and paint the inside to match the interior.

Good point about it being hard to get a good match! I certainly don't want it to look like a "near miss". While I agree that yellow would look sharp, I do gravitate towards a safer look of stained wood. Sounds like a lighter door is appealing to most.

We went with a dark oak on our mahogany door...since you won't match the floor, you might as well pick something that contrasts. Whatever you do, use sikkens...it is a marine finish and is absolutely beautiful. When we were deciding, we had multiple recommendations from multiple people who all had individual experience with the product.

We used a "wood tone and finish" not a stain...we used the base coat in the dark oak and then we finished it with clear coat.
