    I used new pine boards for the walls and put them on horizontally. For the paint, I actually use white transparent stain (2 coats). My goal is to have the knots on the wood come through eventually to give a nice texture to the walls. For the trim, I used a glossy white - sorry - cannot remember the color.

    do you make your own lamp shades? if you do are they painted? what kind of paint? and what kind of fabric are on the shades?

    Yes, those are my own handpainted lampshades. I use a fabric paint from Jacquard. You are supposed to heatset it but I don't. They do fade after a while but I like the faded quality. I have these lampshades in different wacky patterns all through my house. Good luck.
