What were you thinking about using as your material? I have a solid surface counter and used it for my backsplash as well.

iam thinking arborite laminate in different colors and they tell me I can get the backsplash sheet to match the countertop.Would it be ok to have the same color for both?

Sure, why not? If you like the look of it, go for it.

Here is a pic of mine, as I said solid surface material but I liked the simple look. They were able to build a shelf into the backsplash of the same material, too.

We used the same granite for countertop and full backsplash, and love the uniform look (kitchen in progress...notice the blue tape!). I don't have an eye for this stuff and didn't want to risk a blunder (mixing the wrong colors and materials) that I'd have to live with for a long time. As it was, my granite guy incessantly pushed tumbled travertine -- almost as if he had a warehouse full of the stuff that he was trying to get rid of. That just added to my confusion. We went for simple. Good luck!

I think its best if countertop and backsplash are the same as long as you watch out for other issues such as balancing focal points and dark and light colors, etc. in the rest of the kitchen. I found the cost too high for the Quartz countertop I chose, oh well.

In many older homes with non-remodeled kitchens, I see the same materials on counters/backsplash. I really like the simplicity of that look myself. Although I agree with elphaba that you need to consider how it will look in the whole of the kitchen.
