4 Eco-Friendly Flooring for Interior Design

If you didn’t already know, environmentally sustainable and
eco-friendly interior design is a passion of mine. Take a look at these eco-friendly & green options when
considering redoing your floors.

Eco-Friendly Ceramic Wood

Spanish Tile Manufacturer, PLAZA, has come up with a way to combine the strength
and resilience of ceramic, while still looking like wood. Ceramic wood not only
saves the waste and emissions from chopping down trees, but it also lasts much
longer than your typical timber deck. It is made to withstand harsh weather, so
you don’t have to worry about the wear and tear or the upkeep when the material
is exposed to the elements. PLAZA’s ceramic wood is also made of 85% recycled material.

Eco-Friendly Bamboo

Believe it or not, bamboo is actually grass.

This means it regenerates much faster than trees. While some
trees can take a decade to mature, bamboo would take 3-5 years, making it an
ideal alternative when you are trying to conserve trees. And the last thing, among the many benefits of bamboo, floors
can last 30 years or more, longer than your regular hardwood.

Eco-Friendly Recycled
Carpet

Now, if eco-friendly hard flooring isn’t your thing, Bentley
Mills creates high quality recycled carpeting with a vast array of design
options for your home or office’s interior design. There is no sacrifice for
design and sustainability. The company has a goal of eliminating negative
impact it may have on the environment by 2020.

Eco-Friendly Plastic
Bottles

Rill Architects are
magicians. This company has found a way to take one of this world’s top most
wasted products and turn it into the deck you see above. It comes in many
shades and textures and has a 20 year warranty, and is sturdier than wood. I
told you: magic.

At one house we installed Trex. I'm glad to re-use and recycle. I didn't like the plastic rug I bought because it started disintegrating after a year - from Pier 1 is that all I can expect?

Plastic rugs (I'm assuming it was made of recycled material - plastic bottles?) don't really hold up in the long term, especially in high traffic areas or where they are exposed to sunlight. Such a wonderful idea, though!

Yes recycled bottles that felt like plastic. The Costco variation that seems like fabric has held up well outdoors / each kind probably different % too.

loved the article, now please print one regarding the safety of recycled plastics and rugs. Also provide us with locations/manufacturers of reasonable priced items. so many of us can benefit, not the few. That would turn your article from good to great, thanks.

Great article. It's been exciting to see an increased demand in the market for more environmentally sustainable and eco-friendly products. At Eutree, we make Forest Free products harvested from logs of trees that have come down for some reason other than their lumber. We also work with local tree services to bring logs to our mill that would otherwise be turned to mulch or dumped in a landfill. We give these logs a second life by repurposing to flooring, wall paneling, slabs, and other products.
