How to hide an airconditer in NYC apartment

I am in need of design help. I have an an air conditioner on the top right quadrant of a large double hung window. My window view is quite unattractive ie, a fire escape. What kind of window treatment can I use to hide my air conditioner on the top. Was thinking of roman shades under the air conditioner, but not sure if that will look weird.

I assume you want to disguise / solve this as inexpensively as possible. I would build a "box / frame" across the top of the window, covering the same amount as the blind is presently covering. The frame must extend into the room about 2 inches past the AC depth. Cover the frame with a metal mesh (window screen or such, or latticework). Make sure the front cover can be lifted to reach the AC controls. You can mount your blind below the frame.

Hi there, glipman1. You may want to consider a faux wood (white or wood stain looking) blinds or shutters. The PVC/plastic would not warp due to the condensation from the air conditioning unit. They will also allow light in through the slats, but will help distract your "unattractive" view.
