At my Tile Shop, they said certain porcelain tiles were rated for outdoor use but not all. The tile associate should check with the manufacturer. Also it gets VERY HOT in Arizona so verify temperature tolerances.

Porcelanosa sells a system for outdoor Porcelain tiles. My only concern is that the tiles would get hot but they look really sturdy.

I got some porcelanosa outdoor tile samples and set them on my porch rail (full Caribbean sun all day) to see if they got too hot.

They heated only a bit- not enough to burn feet and as expected, the darker got slightly warmer. They also cooled off within seconds of being brought inside- so don't radiate heat after the sun goes down.

Your big issue is texture- matte, non skid (or anti slip in tileese).

We love large porcelain tiles! If you are using them in the landscape make sure that the installer gets a good sand base if you are going to dry set. The tiles tend to be thing so they need a really tight base to prevent movement.
