It is tough to answer a question like yours without photos or visuals of any kind.......Your new light fixture sounds huge for a small space, but it might work with such a large table that seats so many.......One option is to order it and see how it looks and return it if it doesn't work visually........

Your chandelier should be one half the size of your table in inches: 8 x12 = 96 inches so, maximum 48" wide in size hung about 34 - 36" over table top. Put it on a dimmer.
