Design Dilemma Fireplaces

updating a soft contemporary wall above fireplace

We are buying a home built in 1988 and are unsure of what to do to update the wall above the fireplace where it pops out-- add a mantle, change up the fireplace surround. We will have to hang our tv above the fireplace as we don't want to block any windows and no other walls would work. Not sure if we should even out the wall all the way up to the ceiling or any other ideas?

Pretty room.........if you are putting a tv over the fireplace you will need to even out the wall. If your staying more contemporary you might not even need a mantle!

If you remove a few of the shelves in one of the bookcases, then maybe the TV can fit there.

Adding "texture" to the wall with ship lap siding is and easy and inexpensive way of adding some "eye candy" to the area.

Consider reworking the right side of the fireplace built ins for a television mount. It would be placed at a better viewing height and would not require the destruction of that wonderful fireplace wall.
