Can I remove a portion of an exterior wall?

I have a 1989 Cavco single wide (12x37) that I am adding an addition to. Rather than just use the old 6' slider doorway as the access, I'd like to cut away a good 2 to 3 feet of exterior wall on either side of the doorway so I have a square great room; not an L shaped room.

Can I remove a bit of exterior wall on a mobile home? I know they are the main load bearing walls on them. Specially the corners, which we wouldn't touch. Is there a way to beef up the structural load bearing after removing a portion of the wall?

Also, what about adding a door to a blank exterior wall where there isn't one? I can't ever seem to find definitive answers on this topic.

You can remove anything you like as long as you provide an approved load bearing support beam on top to carry the weight.

Contact a local architect of a company who builds mobile homes, I'm sure they will be more than happy to help.
