Seeking help for furniture, layout, tv placement for empty living room

I'm moving and starting from scratch! No existing furniture and a long, narrow empty living room. Fireplace on one end, windows on the long side.

Does anyone have advice for what furniture will work best in this space, and where to place the tv?
For furniture, I need comfy seating for me + 3 tween-to-teens. This is high-use space, and we'll use it for homework, hanging out, tv watching, and hosting. (We won't use the fireplace often.)

Right now I'm thinking the best place for the tv is over the mantel (though I don't much like looking up at a tv.) I'll be opening up the wall between the kitchen and dining room, so it might be nice to see the tv from the kitchen. Though having the tv at the end of the long, narrow room makes seating tricky, right?

What would you do? I love sectionals and was thinking about a smaller L-sectional, but now I'm thinking long couch + 2 chairs. I think my budget will accommodate one "nice" piece (I'm in love with the Hughes collection from Joybird right now,) and the rest will be Ikea + secondhand.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be super appreciative. I don't have budget for a designer, I'm afraid. Here are some pics of the layout and space:

Thanks so much for your help!!!

Please disregard the style of what I've put in below, I just found things that fitted together for placing. Is your TV small enough to fit on a corner unit like this? It seems to me the most logical place for it, and easily watchable from seating that faces either the window or the fireplace -- giving you some flexibility on that score.

If you should decide on a corner TV, please don't put it on something that is just shelves -- to me that always looks apologetic and temporary. You would want something more solid, that looks as though it really belongs in that corner.

Thanks so much! That's an interesting idea but I'm not sure there is space for a corner tv.

And if you put a tv there, what seating would you recommend, Rina? Thanks so much.

And Bev, I'm curious do you will think I should group furniture around the fireplace when it's on the short end of the room?

    Thanks for the helps!!

I'm thinking something like one of the layouts below could work, but beware -- some of the pros here can do a brilliant job of measuring layouts, I'm not one of them. I'm just going by feel. You would need to measure to see whether either would fit anything you might want to buy.

So I'm actually thinking of maybe mounting above the fireplace and doing something like this. Does this work?

As a conversational seating plan it does. I'm not so sure it's super convenient for TV watching -- not so much that the sofa is perpendicular to the TV (so is mine), but that the recliner faces away from the TV -- and of course the TV is going to be rather too high for comfort. I do wish more architects would design rooms with TV placement in mind -- maybe they're assuming that it goes over the mantel or nowhere. It's a really lovely room aside from that problem. Have you considered the possibility of putting it to the right of the window? Sofa with its back to the kitchen wall, recliner as is, other armchair to the right of the fireplace?
