I would like to know the experience and procedure that clients of Eggersmann kitchens went through from initial contact to finished product.
Does Eggersmann have contractors that work for them or with them, or does the client get his own contractor?
Did someone from their studio come out and measure your kitchen and then provide a computer (Or sketch) mock up of their proposal?
Did the studio owner ever mention 'design fees' for doing the mock up.
Any information you have would at this point be very helpful

You should always expect to pay a design fee for your kitchen to be laid out/mocked up/designed (whatever you want to call it) . A lot of firms will credit that amount or part of the fee toward the purchase of cabinets. Eggersmann is super high end and you can expect to pay a design fee I would imagine in addition to the cost of the kitchen cabinets etc.

If you go to most cabinet shops with an accurate floor plan, they will give you a couple design layouts for free so they can give you a price. Once you commit to the cabinet company, they will come to your house and measure it as part of the cabinet costs. High end New York stuff could be different, but I have never paid for a bid.

Your right Fred .. Bringing into a kitchen showroom a complete set of drawings you shouldn't pay for a bid.. However you can't expect anyone to come to your house measure create a design detail it and price it for free. It takes anywhere from 20-40 hours of time foe the average kitchen. Do you work for free?

It is called a proposal. If they don't like your ideas you don't get paid. Do you expect to sell a vacuum every time you go demonstrate one in someone's home?

Fred ... Obviously your not in the design business.

If I had to go out to every ones home who wanted free ideas and an estimate without qualifying them I would never get any work done for my paying customers who actually see value in my time and design skills.

It can be a rat race. I deal with several companies. They all insist on giving me their design input and a bid on every job even when I tell them I have a specific need to go with one company on a specific job. They apparently consider it good public relations and advertising. I agree it can be a waste of time more often than not, but it is that one they snake from the competition that counts.

I don't spend 20 to 40 hours per kitchen. Unless you're doing a tear-out, that is.
