FINISHING BACK OF ISLAND

I need advice on how to finish the back of my island.
We just had our cabinets installed in the kitchen and I left the back of the island without a finish because I couldn't decide. Originally we thought we might want to put barnwood on it, but with all of the California Blue Pine that turned out to be kind of overwhelming on our cathedral ceiling, I don't want barnwood on the island back anymore.
I'm thinking of just ordering the panel from Home Depot to match my cabinets. Anyone have other ideas?
I don't want the island to stand out at all. The blue wood is plenty dramatic for this whole room.
here are some photos of my upper cabinets, lower cabinets and the island back that needs to be covered.

another question to go along with this, is what kind of corbels or support would look nice with this island? I've always loved antique corbels, but they wouldn't look right with this kitchen would they? I've been told that I have to have support for my countertop for this island.

Check this out...

Pvc tongue and groove boards or beadboard paneling that comes in 4by8 sheets and you can cut it to size.

The pvc option would be great because it's durable(thicker) and it has the tongue and groove look to it. Great for bathrooms due to moisture fyi.

Here check out the ceiling I did on my build just simple pine, and by the way I love your ceiling. I think if you pick the right color for the walls and with time the wood ages you'll love it too. Wood has a life element to it, you will notice that it will change once it ages and I love that.

FYI I will be building a small cabin next if you like that sort of thing, and I will use the pvc tongue and groove at some capacity just not sure how much of it.

Don't beat yourself up over the ceiling give it time, it will grow on ya I promise :-)

Discuss hidden support (steel) with your fabricator prior to selection of material. There's no reason to have any visible means of support.

Teri, is there a design plan for this wall and stairs? It seems like this should be closer to finished judging from the rest of the interior progress.

Beautiful space. I agree to not do the wood on the island. You need to let the ceiling be the star in the room, so for that reason I would go with the cabinet panel, and also suggest keeping other choices like countertop and backsplash simple.

I would recommend putting some tin tiles on the back of the island for interest.

American Tin Ceilings We created a headboard with 2 tin tiles. Great company to deal with. It was about 12 days from order to arrival.
