fireplace granite/marble to the ceiling

We are renovating the basement and have just installed a 40 inch gas fireplace plus metal framing of the unit itself. The ceilings are 9 ft.

We don't want to put in a traditional mantel. Wondering if anyone has used granite to be adhered to the wall directly above the top part of the fireplace and going right up to the ceiling? There wouldn't be anything on the side of the actual fireplace unit. Instead there would be a piece of granite approx 60 inches wide, to line up with the frame of the fireplace unit and height of about 5 feet - to reach the ceiling. Basically a rectangle shape single piece of granite ie. 60 inches and 5 or 5.5 ft.

Has anyone else done this? How does it look?

Thanks.
