Bedroom floor

We are planning on building a pool in our backyard and changing the window in the master bedroom to a sliding glass door leading to patio. The bedroom carpet will be removed. Should we replace the carpet with wood the same as through out the living area, excluding the kitchen, or replace with tile? My husband and myself plan to have plenty of nights where we come directly into our master bedroom from the hot tub. I like the idea of wood, but am considering the practicality of tile, we would be using the same tile through out the kitchen and master bathroom.

What area of the country do you live in? In Fl, and the SW, tile everywhere is common. We are in Fl, and have an engineered hard wood in our bedroom. We also have a pool, and sliders to the bedroom, and use the pool daily, 9 months out of the year. After 4 years, the wood floor is still fine, no water damage at all.

IMO a master bedroom should be soft and serene and ceramic tile just upsets this.

We live in the Houston. I do not like the look of engineered or ceramic wood look tile up against the real wood in the rest of the house.

Real wood properly finished should not be A problem.

Match existing wood! A runner inside the door would absorb dripping water on those nights where its too cold to towel off outside.

I’m also in Houston, have wood floors throughout including the master. I have French doors in the master to my patio and about to build a pool with a hot tub close to the master side of the house. I’m adding a rug inside and outside the doors and figure that will be good enough.

If it’s not then I guess I’ll use more towels to dry off. :-) because no way would I add tile to my bedroom.

Hi Kath-

You could have the same wood in your bedroom that you have in the rest of your house, and for comfort have a rug in the bedroom that goes under the bed and sticks out on three sides.

The size of the bed determines the size of the rug.

You can get any kind of area rug you like to suit your bedroom decor or taste, a pastel-ish weave, a Persian carpet, a print in any color way you like, there are so many options.

And just to be sure, if you will have any furniture outside your bedroom besides the hot tub, for example chairs, you can have an ottoman with a flip top, and inside you can store some extra towels.
