Has anyone tried growing vines from sweet potatoes whole tubers or slices of them sowing directly in the soil?

How about Elephant ear plants? What other plants can you grow from store bought produce?

Avocado . You stick toothpicks in them, three or for so you can suspend it in a glass of water to get roots. Or plant in soil.

Sweet potatoes from the grocery store is a different type of tubers than used for the sweet potato vines used in planters.

The only elephant ear I know from a grocery store is a pastry. You have to buy the bulbs from a garden center.
