I have 2 large gulf fritillary caterpillars I have been carefully raising in containers giving the passion vine they eat. one is very big and much “fatter” all the sudden, looking close to pupation, and now is doing what I believe is the classic “wandering” - REALLY moving around so much that I started to get worried. I will show a pic of what I’ve provided (I thought a horizontal clean chopstick would be nice for pupating) but it doesn’t seem to like it! It’s walking around like it’s desperately searching for a place and I just feel bad, and want to give it what it needs.

Hopefully the pictures are clear enough showing the setup - I just now added that long dry stick stuck in some dirt in a small bowl, and it just keeps walking back and forth down the stick and back. My husband thinks it’s hilarious that I’m so concerned and says he’ll figure it out (the caterpillar)...maybe he’s right.
