Whats wrong with my banana?

I have had this plant for 8 years and have never had a problem until now. In the last month the damage has become quite extensive. I have added photos so you can see what's going on. The new growth is completely eaten and black, the other leaves are yellow and some are eaten also there is a stringy white/brown stuff (don't know if its related). This plant is at least 20 feet tall.
