Rug size- interior designer input!

I have a living room that is 14’10” by 12’2”. I can’t buy an 11 x 14 rug because the long side of the room has a vent on one side of the floor that needs 11 inches to be clear. I am having a very difficult time finding a non-standard rug size (11x13 is probably the perfect size). I really want an Oriental or similar hand knotted rug and 9x12 is a common size. Can I place a 9x12 rug in that room where the 12 foot is oriented on the side of the room that’s 12’2” and the 9 foot is on the 14’10” side, or is that too weird? (This question assumes the 12 foot size on the rug is dead accurate so it fits in the room but feel free to tell me why this assumption is dumb).

All of the front legs of the furniture would be on the rug. The couch is 38 inches deep and the 2 chairs are 40 inches deep and they would be across from each other on the side of the room that’s 14’10”.

If you have stuck with me so far, bless you.

I could also buy an 11x14 and have the rug pulled to the end of the long side of the room (14’10” side) and the vent would nearly clear. The issue here is I think it would look weird even though you would have to look closely to see the rug isn’t centered because furniture would be on either side.

I had to round off the measurements as planner wouldn’t accept 10”.

    First layer rug is 9 x 12 and next layer is 8 x 10.

Center the rug first and then place furniture with front legs on the rug.

Looks as if you can get away with an 8 x 10 and keep front legs of furniture on the rug.

Post a pic of the space . I rarely like layed rugs and without seeing the placement of your furniture hard to say what is a good fit So post some pics of the space . I happen to not think the furniture always has to sit on the rug ans especially with oriental rugs since I like to see the whole rug and often even do all glass coffee tables to show off the rug.

My floor plan, Patricia, is not suggesting layered rugs. It is to show the OP the difference in two sizes in her room. Next plan I posted is furniture to scale on both rugs and OP can choose a smaller size if she finds a rug she likes or a 9 s 12.

When I need an unconventional rug size that doesn't break the bank (depending on the seller), I shop Etsy. You can find several shops that sell beautiful vintage Turkish, Persian, or Oriental rugs that are wool and hand-made. Their prices are unbeatable. Plus, you get creative rug sizes since they're hand-made.

Thank you to everyone who made it through that painful description of my problem. There’s no furniture yet but here is a (likely unhelpful) photo of the empty room. It’s a very small living room, as you can see from the measurements, so my seating area is just a sofa opposite 2 chairs. There will be enough room for this furniture (plus a narrow coffee table and some small end tables and a table between the chairs) and there will be

space to walk in and find a seat, but not room for much else.

Quick clarification: I have ordered the sofa, coffee table, and 2 chairs, but they will take 3 months to arrive. I am waiting until all of this essential furniture is in the room make a decision on end tables/accent tables.
