If I have a countertop backsplash can I add tile backsplash on top

I have granite countertops with the counter part that comes up the wall about 4 inches. I want to add backsplash tile. Do I have to take the 4 inch backsplash off to add a tile backsplash or can I add the tile from that 4 inch point and extend it up to underneath the cabinet

Thanks for the question Mary. I feel that a more custom look would be to have the tile go from counter top to the bottom of the wall cabinets. I would remove the low splash.

Have the tile wrap around the cabinet side as a low end splash
