Strange, he shadows me back home
    Footsteps echo on the stones
    Rainy nights, on Hausmann Boulevard

Crossroad Blues by Robert Johnson, another pioneer, which gave birth to the more modern version by Eric Clapton that follows next.

Last one, with a cruel irony. Jan Berry, one of the co-authors of this song and the Jan of Jan and Dean, had a terrible car crash some years later on the same Sunset Blvd. that was the subject of this song. The crash left him with severe brain damage and very disabled. He died in his early 60s.

What a wonderful walk down memory lane! I have not heard Crossroads by Robert Johnson in years!

I really didn't know what the FNM threads were about. Neat theme!

Instead I'm on the Avenue where nobody goes
With fields of green that wilted like a last summer rose

South Street by The Orlons , a Philadelphia group singing about a Philadelphia street, with a bunch of Philadelphia teenagers dancing on Bandstand!

I knew "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" from Mick Ronson. Googling a video, found out that it was written by Richard Rogers and used in a 1939 movie! So here's both versions:

From 1987 in Downtown Los Angeles prior to gentrification. The DJ's reference to a "fashion factory" is one of the garment sweatshops which populated DTLA. Among those "sweet ladies" were many undocumented Latinas and Asians working long hours in deplorable conditions for crappy wages.

Lars, that was great fun, listening to two other versions of a song I've known so long!

When my son took me to see The Music Man at the Goodman in Chicago, i picked him up on the north side of Chicago. As we turned on to LSD, just about 5 (from the song), he cued this up. i raised him right.
