Is a Bathroom niche Miter edge that difficult to do??

We are renovating our bathroom, the tiles in the bathroom will have a concrete look. My husband and I wanted a modern minimal* tile layout.

Our contractor is insisting that there is no way to frame out the niche without using a metal frame to hide the thickness of the tile.

I researched a lot, and found that a miter edge is a great solution for a modern finish without having to use a metal frame.

Our contractor already bought Metal frame. But I hate the idea and it doesn't seem that he knows or wants to do it the way what I am asking for it to be done.

Is it that difficult to achieve a miter edge? Is this a process that costs

more money and possibly our contractor is trying to be cheap?

I don't know how else to present my idea to our contractor when he says there's no other way to do it besides his option. ( we are also too far along working with this guy to hire someone else)

Would love your thoughts and opinions!

To update, Our contractor did do the miter cut as we requested! I don't know why he went from saying "nothing" was possible besides using that metal edge to " ok we can do that" .... Very confusing. Either way its looking great and I am very happy I did my research via youtube for options hahaha!

Mine uses tile and no schluter piece.

cat_ky - The images I posted clearly don't have a metal frame around them.... this is what our contractor is going to do, and this is what the metal frame will look like :

The metal frame is hideous and whatever was used in your pictures is completely different in terms of the result. I wouldn't find the metal framing to be acceptable at all. It reminds me of a miniature framed shower :-).

What does your GC say when you show him the pictures. Obviously you can achieve the aesthetic result you want since it was done in those pictures.

Thanks! We actually have several other niches in the other bathrooms and none of them have them either, so definitely tell him not to use it. OR the issue could be they don’t have the skills to do it? It looks awful in that photo yuck!

I admit that photo, is not all that attractive, and I wouldnt want that. Most metal strips are much smaller and dont show up all that much. This is big and yes, its ugly.

Can you get bullnose trim for your tile? If so, frame the niche with them. Obviously, we were using subways but you could do it with a large tile.

Obviously your contractor does not do, does not know how to do, and is unwilling to do a mitered edge. If you insist, don't expect stunning results.

You don't order a wedding cake from the greasy spoon diner.
