If you choose to do the white you'll need to change the shutters and door to complement. If leaving the shutters and door as is, go with the dark.

I agree. I'd go white, but paint the shutters and front door white too. It'll brighten up the face of your property.

White does add some life and is pretty classic with the brick. I agree you'd need some balance since the white garage doors pull too much focus. Painting the shutters and door white would help and would also pull the door out of the shadows a bit.
