Wanting to modernize 90's look

I am trying to decide if I should just keep my existing color scheme which is very 90's but isn't too bad or if I should bring my space into more of a contemporary look by painting the walls BM Dove Wing and changing the fire place surround to black. Any thoughts? (I no longer have the rust poufs or pillows but this is the only LR picture that would upload).

I updated my kitchen and painted the existing cabinets charcoal, changed out countertop, backsplash and painted walls BM Dove Wing. I love it but am unsure if it will be too much white throughout the house. Thank you for any input.

I think you could modernize a bit without painting just by introducing more color in art and accessories. Right now the only thing that really has any color in it to speak of is the print in the DR.

I like how the kitchen turned out. If you want comments on the room with the fireplace you need to post a picture of that room as well.

It's hard to say without seeing pictures of the rest of the house or the fireplace. Painting walls a neutral color is a low-risk decision, but if the current colors are working for you then you might decide to keep them. As for the kitchen, it looks great but I would stay away from gray, monochromatic accessories and try to bring in wood tones, textures, and colors to liven it up.

I had some trouble adding the pictures of the living room, dining room and fireplace. All is on now.

I think the living room looks fine. It could have a bit of color and interest added. Your newly done kitchen looks nice, but, please put some color in there. It appears to look a bit cold in all your rooms, because of lack of color and anything really interesting on the walls.
