Hi Dave. My condolences. The heart shaped one is Pothos. The dotted one is probably Calathea. They both like water. Pothos cannot be over watered. It will live in a cup of just water. It is an easy plant to read. When it is thirsty, its droops. If the leafs turn yellow then the plant is sacrificing leafs to stay alive so its time to fertalize and water. It does like fertalizer. Home Depot carries a brand called Dr. Earth that I like. Its tangible grannules that I can grab and toss in. You dont need much per plant. Around a tablespoon sprinkled over the surface of the dirt of one plant is usually plenty (depending on the size of the plant). It will breakdown and leach down over time when you water. If the leafs get brown edges, it can be cause by flouride or other chemicals in your water. To combat that, fill your pitcher of water and let it sit on the counter for a day so that those chemicals can evaporate. There are other plant things but those are the basics.
