You can remove the vertical vanes and use their "holders" as a basis for hanging your curtains. They will need to be very lightweight though for the plastic to support them. At least it won't be verticals!

they would mount into the walls, but you can get them pretty snug to the ceiling so your fabric would cover the vanes.

Thank you so much! I didn't know ceiling mounts were possible. I'll speak to my landlord about it.

Also may consider buying one without the finials or removing them such that the rod goes flush to each wall (no decorative end balls). It's a personal thing but I like the look.

DIY: You can buy an iron, hallow aluminum or wood solid round dowel (closet rod) at the hardware store. Get it the length of the room. Buy 2 end caps that mount on a wall for a closet rod or shower rod. Make sure to use anchors. Mount a center hook, like a closet hook in the center of the window, from the ceiling to support the dowel/rod. Use anchors!!! Very important. You can paint it any color. There are great metalic spray paints. Make sure that your drapes aren't too heavy.
