Thanks! I'd originally planned for Brokhult, a grayed walnut, but it was discontinued, and I am so glad it was, because I really love the Askersund fronts.

This is an amazing job! I really like your kitchen with the Askersund cabinets. It's a great look.

Do you think that the cabinetry has held up in a rental unit?

Would you put this same cabinetry in a kitchen intended for your own use, or would you go higher quality?

julieste So far things have held up great. I will absolutely use IKEA in my next kitchen. I forgot to mention in another rental unit we had planned an IKEA kitchen, but got caught in the switch to Sektion so we went with Diamond cabs. The IKEA boxes were far better quality. The Diamond cabs boxes used lower quality chipboard and were basically covered with Contact paper rather than high pressure laminate; the full extension/soft close hardware was a big upcharge.

IKEA boxes are rock solid and the Blum hardware is amazing. I love the full extension drawers! We are planning on moving the kitchen in our new home in a couple of years and it will be another IKEA kitchen unless I win the lottery in the meantime. Even then.... maybe just custom fronts? :-) Good Luck!

Happy to hear that you like the IKEA line since I think this will probably be what we go with. I really like the look of the Askersund more constantly disparage them. than anything else but had been worried about the quality since it is the melamine on top of particle board.

It's so difficult on this website to get a truly unbiased opinion of IKEA since so many of the kitchen pros constantly disparage them. These people aren't exactly unbiased since their living depends on selling other lines of cabinetry.

I don’t know what comments you’re reading - there are many, many here who speak very highly of IKEA and the value for the cost, pros included. And I’ve been around since the GW days. The pros I have seen “disparage” them are talking about the IKEA effect, meaning you often forget to account for the fact in the price that you have to DIY, so it’s not quite the value that it seems but many who use IKEA enjoy that aspect or don’t care. The pros also pooh pooh that you are limited in door and cabinet sizes. Rarely do you see them say they’re not a good product for the price point. Or maybe I’m reading different posts and comments....
