Guest Picks: Bathroom Remodel Items Worth the Plunge
Make a splash in your renovated bathroom with these sinks, tubs, lighting fixtures and accessories
A bathroom renovation can be one of the most stressful projects to undertake. It's messy, uncomfortable and usually expensive. I'm about to take the plunge (no pun intended), so I've been trawling the Internet for inspiration. The array of products — and prices — out there is really quite bewildering. There are so many possible directions to take: clean and minimal, glamorous and sparkly, warm and organic. How's a girl to choose? — Lucy from Four Walls and a Roof
Hudson Metal Extra-Wide Single Washstand
The vanity is often the starting point. You can set the aesthetic with a standout vanity, then pair it with more basic pieces. This marble vanity is a showstopper. It's pricey but would be the defining moment in a bathroom.
Apollo Marble Vanity Sink, Dove Gray
An alternative is this marble sink that rests on the countertop. It's a lot less expensive, but you'd need to factor in the cost of the countertop too.
MTI Petra Double Lavatory Sink
I will probably opt for a ceramic sink. This one shares the angular shape of the marble versions but is much more affordable. I like the idea of a rectangular sink in a family bathroom. I don't have room for two sinks, but this way both kids can brush their teeth at once.
Stylo Eleganza Sink
I've had success finding well-priced sinks on Overstock. This oval option would work well in a master bathroom.
Freestanding Oval Composite Bathtub
This is my idea of a dream bathtub. It's a perfect modern classic. Unfortunately it also has a price tag to match.
Wyndham Collection UVA Free Standing Soaking Bathtub
This tub is a tenth of the price but has a similar look. It would look really luxurious against a wall of iridescent mosaic tiles or heavily veined marble.
Aquatica Purescape Acrylic Freestanding Acrylic Bathtub
Although this is a freestanding bath, it would work well for more of a built-in look. Or you can achieve the same look with an undermount bath and a white Caeserstone surround.
Wet Room Corner Walk-In With Side Panel
It used to be that you only put shower rooms in spaces too tiny for a tub. But with the popularity of luxury showers and wet rooms, that's no longer the case. My master bath will be a shower room. I'd love to use an all-glass shower screen like this.
The wet room look also requires minimal transition between floor and shower tray. You can opt for a tiled shower floor with a small ledge, or you can choose one of the new extremely low-profile trays that are angled slightly to allow draining.
Chevron Pattern Taupe Shower Curtain
If your shower is over the tub, you'll need a screen or curtain. A screen is more clean lined, but a curtain allows you to inject more color and pattern. Plus, it's more practical when bathing kids. These shower curtains can be printed in almost any design. I would choose a neutral design like this taupe chevron ...
Koi Fish Shower Curtain
... or you can go wild with a Japanese print of koi fish. The options are endless, so whether you want pink mustaches, cartoon zebras or a photo from the movie Jaws, you should be able to find your ideal shower curtain.
Contemporary Bathroom Tile
Tiles are one of the most important elements of a bathroom. You can make quite basic fixtures look amazing with the right tiles. I love these linen-effect tiles. The white ones are great, but this pale greige would look so stylish on a floor or feature wall.
Iridescent Glass Mosaic Tile
Glass mosaic tiles are always popular. I like the organic texture and variation of color in these. They're pricey but perfect in small doses for a glamorous bathroom.
Spence Wall Mounted Single Arm Sconce With Fabric Half Shade
Even if you go for a very minimal bathroom, you can still dress it up with lighting. These sconces are a classic design that will never go out of style even though the brass finish is very on trend.
Atomic Age Single Wall Bracket
For a more modern look, I like these Atomic sconces. They come in 12 different finishes, including brushed brass.
Canopy Designs Parisian Sconce
For a truly spectacular effect, how about chandelier sconces? These are a little out of my price range, but they would definitely add a touch of luxury to a bathroom.
Roll With It
If you're into the brass trend, this bathroom tissue holder is just the ticket. It even comes with a walnut peg to complete the midcentury vibe.
Chinese Garden Stool | Wisteria
Every bathroom needs a few dramatic accents. A stool is useful for keeping towels, extra soaps or other accoutrements handy. These Chinese garden stools are a cost-effective option. I'm tempted by the gold one for my master bath.
Chatham Bath Accessories
This ceramic bathroom accessory set is pretty enough to use as serveware! I love the organically shaped bowls and trays. They're perfect for jewellery and perfumes.
Cut-Glass Watchmaker's Jar
To add the final glamorous touch, I'd choose some vintage-looking glass jars like this one. Maybe it will only hold Walgreens cotton balls, but it will still feel like a little bit of Hollywood in my daily routine!
