A Charming Transitional Kitchen

Kitchen, San Francisco

The clients' existing kitchen was unevenly divided, feeling closed in and dysfunctional. It was very dark inside and needed some updates. With some structural engineering, two walls were moved/removed, opening up the space for multipurpose reasons. The dining room, entertainment area, bar, mud room, and kitchen were combined. But in order to separate from the family room and reduce the amount of noise, we put large pocket doors in the opening. The client also got new flooring to compliment the light wash cabinetry that would wrap the perimeter of the space. The final materials are very refreshing and cool-toned, colors like light gray, white, and light washes of wood. We also inserted some floating shelves and a built-in bench for the garage door since it is their main point of entry. The clients also allowed us to expand the scope of work to the powder bathroom, entry, and dining area (Discussed in separate survey). One of their primary concerns during the design process was ensuring that materials and products were durable due to the kids in the household.
