We are thrilled with our kitchen+ project! Brook and Co. does excellent work; their team, including their subcontractors, was meticulous in their craftsmanship and attention to detail, offered helpful suggestions when unexpected construction issues arose, and was always on top of the complicated project schedule, which spanned many months. Rick in particular is unflappable and efficient, and was wonderful to work with as the project foreman. On the rare occasion that we had a problem with subcontractors (for example, a miscommunication between the supplier of our stone counter top slab and the sub who cuts and installs the counter top) Dan, the owner of the company, was able to provide a quick resolution. I would recommend Brook and Company for anyone who wants high quality workmanship and is willing to pay a premium to get this. Our project lasted longer than the projected 6 month time frame, and was certainly expensive, at least in part due to architects fees and expensive appliance/materials choices on our part; I think we started discussing plans for the remodel with our architect at least 4 years prior to the point that demolition started, and went through many design iterations. We lived in the house throughout the remodel and that was not fun at all, but in the end we have a kitchen, sun room, enclosed storage area in the basement, and a mudroom, and are delighted with the end product. We would not have been happy with a remodel that did not meet the high quality standards of Brook and Co. and did not match the style of the rest of our 1901 house, even if this meant that we would have been able to save money. We feel that we have the kitchen+ space that we dreamed of for years!

Dan and his very capable crew built our new home. The project was a two story building with a basement, and was completed in Fall of 2016. The Brooks and company team (Rick, James, and Vicki to name just a few) were competent, professional, reliable, and maintained a good sense of humor. We really enjoyed working with them and love the finished product.
As with any major construction project, issues came up (subcontractor time delays, rework and the like). We were happy to learn that our trust in Dan was well placed because he addressed those issues, and resolved them to our mutual satisfaction.
If you are looking for a trusted general contractor who charges a fair price for such a high quality of work, then I'd suggest you consider Brook and Company!

Dan and I worked to develop a house design that met all my needs. The project was complete tear down to the foundation. The project got off to a slow start but quick enough the project came together and met all my expectations. The original house was a 850 sq ft one level house and the new house is a two level 1900 sq ft house. Any issues that came up during the build from changes I requested, late supplies or dealing with difficult neighbors Dan dealt with quickly and professionally.
His crew and the subs he hired were fun to work with also. The project came within the projected budget..
If you want a professional builder that will meet all your expectations hire Dan and his crew.

I really could not say enough about how much my husband & I like the work Dan did for us. We added a family room off the kitchen & completely chaanged the foot print & remodeled the kitchen. We brought our deck from ground level up to the kitched level, which makes it so convenient & usable! We also remodeled the main bath to make it more elder friendly. Dan paid attention to every detail & immediately addressed any concerns we had. His subs are great! The employees of Brook & Co. are absolutely the best! Timelines were on schedule. We went above our original cost estimate, but we also changed things as we went along and picked some higher priced alternatives.
Everyone remarks on the beauty of this remodel--the workmanship is simply superb! We would recommend Dan without reservation!

It will become evident we believe Brook and Company hung the sun, moon and the stars. We undertook a major home remodel in 2000-2001 (kitchen addition and remodel; garage and front porch addition; closet addition; complete bathroom remodels; basement remodel; new plumbing, new wiring, and new windows throughout). After a year of researching contractors, soliciting bids, and nagging various contractors to return calls, we found Dan Brook. For the estimate, he walked our house with the plans, called in the major subcontractors who would be doing work on our remodel and walked them through our house with the plans, then gathered all their bids, and presented us with the final bid. We had confidence in the bid's accuracy and, except for change orders prompted by the age of the house (1906) and our belated choices, the allowances called out actually put us under budget.
The crew arrived on time daily and worked throughout the day. No a day here, a half day there one so frequently hears about. The quality of their work and materials used was and is always superb. As we moved out during the remodel, everyone ensured we had daily communication (via telephone or in-person) to review progress, troubleshoot, and make the million immediate decisions and choices a remodel necessitates. They maintained the cleanest construction site we've ever seen. Our neighbors raved about the courtesy, consideration, friendliness and professionalism of the Brook and Company crew. Dan Brook was our advocate with subs and made the subs perform the work to HIS exacting standards at their expense. The project was completed on time. And fifteen years later we find the quality of the workmanship to be impeccable and holding up beautifully. When we get ready to finish out our attic as a master bedroom suite, only one contractor will be considered for the job: Brook and Company.

I met Dan Brook in 2001. The project was small. My tiny 60 year-old bathroom had a tub but no shower option, the water-damaged wall around the old aluminum window by the tub had been patched, the ceiling was low and peeling, and the floor was in sad shape. Dan listened carefully, asking questions and taking time to hear what I wanted. He offered some options that would work in the tiny space. One was to convert the window by the tub into glass block to let in light and avoid water damage, while making the space feel larger. I also wanted a skylight and when the space proved too tight, he suggested vaulting the ceiling as a solution to accommodate the skylight and make the bathroom feel larger.
Dan provided a detailed bid that was easy to understand and gave me a clear understanding of the scope of the project and costs. He identified items whose cost would depend on what I selected and suggested estimated allowances. Brook and Company took the bathroom down to the studs, repairing any rot, installing new copper plumbing throughout, new wiring, up-to-date wall material around the tub, and excellent, sturdy finishes--tile, flooring, fixtures, trim, paint. In addition to construction options, Dan made design suggestions for the tile that made the room whole. Every morning, the crew set up a plastic hallway from the entry to the bathroom to protect the house from construction dust. They took it down every night, picked up debris, and swept. There were no hazards. "We take care of your house like it's ours," Dan said.
Dan also thought about how the remodel could affect existing infrastructure in this older house and suggested I consider having a new water line brought from the street to the house as it was aging and might not do well with the pressure the new plumbing would handle. He had the whole house and avoiding a bad surprise for me in mind! He was always available to talk about progress on the project, any questions that came up, decisions that I needed to make, and kept me apprised of their timeline. The finished bathroom is structurally sound, beautiful, functional, and has worn exceedingly well. High quality craftsmanship makes a lasting difference. I would hire Brook and Company again in a heartbeat--in fact I have for larger projects and with even greater satisfaction!

Every day we love to be in the kitchen that Brook and Company remodeled and created for us. Dan Brook has developed relationships with sub contractors who are meticulous in every detail of their work. Our project required electricians, painters, plumbers, tile work, engineering and custom built cabinetry and millwork. Dan works with only the best craftsmen and the finished product is beyond our expectations. From the beginning Dan was full of ideas to help us get exactly what we wanted and was professional in dealing with all the administrative details also - rare to find a contractor who is excellent at design, development and completion of a project while having the ability to keep the business details current and available for the homeowner. From beginning to end we knew what was happening. As in all projects there were miscommunications, but the subs came back and corrected each detail whether it was their mistake or ours. Large projects do bring stress, but Dan was patient and calm and walked through each detail with us and was always available to us when we needed to talk details or we were just having a panic moment for no real reason. Dan is great to work with!!!!
