Over the past decade in the energy industry, Michael K. Haspel has developed a reputation for leadership. He has worked with mineral resources firms since 2007 as both a landsman and as project manager. Diverse work experiences and an unrivaled ability to master new skills have characterized Michael’s career. Michael currently works for his own petroleum industry consulting firm, Haspel Land & Petroleum, Inc., which is based in Fort Worth, Texas. Education Michael graduated from Hillcrest High School near Dallas, Texas in 1992. He then enrolled in Denison University, a prominent liberal arts college in Granville, Ohio. Michael studied history and economics at the University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1996. Real Estate Industry Experience Mr. Haspel’s first professional experiences after graduation was with a real estate company in the Los Angeles area. He served as an assistant property manager for Arden Realty, Inc., helping to manage two office tower developments and building his repertoire of contract management and property acquisition skills. During his time in the real estate industry, Michael also worked as an independent property investor, focusing on distressed properties in and around Los Angeles. He returned to his native Texas in 2006, first working as a property asset manager before entering the energy industry. Landman and Property Manager Experience Michael joined Carla Petroleum, Inc. in 2007 as a landman. This large company is responsible for managing a broad selection of mineral resource projects, including petroleum drilling and gas field development. Michael’s work as a landman entailed many roles, including lease acquisition and due diligence, title analysis, field broker coordination, and property rights negotiation between leaseholders and owners. During his work as a landman, Michael developed extensive technology skills. He knew that database management was the key to managing complex petroleum mining projects, so he focused on leveraging land management and database systems to improve workflow. Michael quickly earned the admiration of his peers for his proficiency in these technologies. This skill also helped to dramatically reduce errors in title defects, allowing the companies he has worked with to handle complex sales and land acquisitions with ease. With Carla Petroleum, and later Holland Land Services and Tug Hill Operating, Inc., Michael forged ahead with a petroleum industry consulting venture.
