We are one of the oldest, family-run furniture stores in the U.S.! Abraham Lincoln led the U.S. as commander in chief. America's Civil War tore through the South. And Sebastian Simonet launched a family furniture business that would span generations. That furniture store opened 150 years ago on Main Street in Stillwater. Simonet Furniture continues the family legacy of offering hometown customer service with quality-made furniture, mattresses and home goods. Mike O'Brien, the great-great-grandson of Sebastian Simonet, took over the store in 2010. Simonet Furniture receives items daily — from coffee tables to dining room sets and lighting to bedroom sets. "The store continually changes and it’s a joy to help people build their new lives and homes with our furniture," Mike O’Brien said. "Customers say they’ve been coming here for decades. I hope their grandkids get the opportunity to say the same thing." The roots of Stillwater's first furniture store run deep in the St. Croix Valley. 150 Years ago, Sebastian Simonet, a master cabinetmaker and Swiss immigrant, opened Simonet Furniture & Carpet Co. Simonet and O'Brien descendants — two of Stillwater's founding families — proudly continue the family business values passed on to them by their founder. Mike O'Brien is a fifth generation member of the Simonet/O'Brien family.
