Mark Austin and his son Josh are "hands on" general contractors with some talented carpenters on salary, and generally good subcontractors for electric, plumbing , and HVAC, etc. They took on a complex restoration of our 1793 stone house 6 miles west of Gettysburg, which required digging out the basement, pouring new concrete footers, restoring structural chestnut beams and stone walls, installing a new cedar shake and copper roof with skylights, and finger jointing old pitch pine wooden floors. A new contemporary welded steel and chestnut stairway connects the basement, first, and second floors.Previous occupants included at least five dozen black snakes which confronted the workmen on a daily basis. The work is coming to an end after about two years with stunning results.

Mark Austin Building and Remodeling provided us high quality work and materials for our project, which included an addition of a family room, master suite with walk in closet, shower and laundry facilities, a pantry and all new windows and siding. The extra design work and recommendations (adding a front porch roof and craftsman-style trim) made our project a real stand-out. We have received numerous compliments from neighbors on the results of our project. In addition to quality work, the craftsmen who worked on the project were excellent. They left the job site clean every evening and we felt completely comfortable with them while we lived through our 9 month project. We highly recommend them for their work, attention to detail and being really nice people to work with.

We worked with Josh Austin of Mark Austin Building. We have a very old house and the kitchen needed a major makeover! We had a budget and Josh helped us stick to it as close as possible. He was very flexible and understanding. The people he chooses to work with are upstanding and wonderful. We ended up with a beautiful kitchen and its our favorite room in the house. This contractor built an in-law appartment that was over 1,300 sq. ft onto my home which included a kitchen, living room, sunroom, bedroom, covered back and front proches and a full bathroom with walk in closets and a very large crawlspace for storage. Contractor was on time, kept to a schedule, checked on the subcontractors everyday and paid very close attention to detail. This contractor treated me like I was the boss and what I wanted he provided but nicely provided professional experience when he saw something that should have been done in a different way and I washappy I took his advice. Everytime I had a question he responded immediately and never let me hanging. I highly recommend him to anyone.
