About Us

Best Tex Gardens LLC is a full service design company. providing high-quality projects from design to completion. Best Tex Gardens was founded by Gay Bonorden Gray, who started landscaping in 2000. After a long career as an intellectual property litigator focusing on patent law, Gay Bonorden Gray decided to do her part in making the world a more beautiful place. Leaving a secure position in a Fortune 500 company as in-house counsel, Gay went back to school to pursue a career in horticulture. Since starting her business in landscaping, Gay’s designs have appeared in print in several publications by Sunset Magazines and Books (available at retailers like Barnes and Noble and Home Depot) and have appeared multiple times on HGTV. She filmed two television shows for HGTV’s Landscape Smart, and had much fun doing it. Travis Gray decided to join the fun several years ago, after a long career in the high-tech industry. Now they work together with their family to serve others in the Lake Travis area.

Gay, Travis and their crews turned the much neglected landscape of our newly purchased home into a beauty to behold. They redesigned our beds, incorporated a French drain to solve a drainage issue, and added some new plants to provide more color and texture. Plus, they updated the edging on the beds with new stone, added stone caps to several enclosures, and built a stone address block at the street. All crews were efficient and helpful! You can't go wrong with Best Tex Gardens.

Gay met with me and worked up a plan to refresh our front and backyard beds. She took my ideas and came up with the vision and design that was beyond my expectations. Jason and Gay did a fantastic job helping to turn our backyard from an unusable plot of land to a beautiful oasis where our kids can play. Jason and Gay were very patient with us during the planning process and helped us think through multiple design ideas to fit our budget. Once the project started, Jason gave us daily progress updates and made sure we were involved in every decision, and he also did a good job of communicating the impact of design changes on the project cost. Gay used her creativity and knowledge of plants to make our backyard a truly beautiful and intimate space for our family. We look forward to working with Best Tex in the future.

We used Best Tex Gardens and Landscapes to refresh our planters in our front yard and to add privacy landscaping in our backyard after putting in a pool. They are the best company to work with! Gay knows her plants so well. She drew up an entire landscape plan for us and then her team came and planted everything. They were so professional and got the job done quickly. I'm so happy with everything they did for us and we will be having them back in the spring to refresh and add some spring color. Thanks Gay & Jason!

We used Best Tex Gardens and Landscapes to reimagine our backyard landscaping when we installed a swimming pool. They did an incredible job. They were attentive, on-time, responsive, kept within our budget, and made our yard look like an oasis! They also reconfigured our irrigation with this project which was critical. I’m relatively plant literate, but since moving to Lakeway, I’ve STRUGGLED with plants the Lakeway deer won’t eat. They munched several plants that are supposed to be deer resistant, they’re weirdos. I served many salad bars to them before contacting Gay. I cannot recommend her enough. I told her about my love of lush, Southern gardens, tropicals, and Japanese gardens. She magically came up with a plan that hit each of these areas perfectly. She NAILED IT. Definitely give her a call for your next project. She’s passionate, knowledgeable, and just a joy to work with.

Gay has an unbelievable vision in making your dreams come true with her acute attention to detail and making sure she listens to what you what accomplished! She is extremely knowledgeable on the native plants/bushes and knows her stuff! They are two of the finest people you could ever want to work on your home and our world class individuals!
