Alex Scott Porter Architecture + Design PLLC is a design intensive studio founded in 2001 in order to create nuanced, natural spaces. We believe in relaxed, lived-in modernism. We are Architects and Interior Designers that specialize in designing HOUSES and APARTMENTS. HOMES are the firm’s life-blood. We have a sustained interest in how people really live, and create houses and apartments that can adapt and change as they grow. Our work is grounded in a sense of place, in sympathy and support of the lifestyle of our clients. Alex Scott Porter is a nationally certified Architect with 20 years of experience in creating houses and interiors. Her interest in houses began way before she got any formal training. Old buildings were an obsession in the Porter household, so much so that she lived in a Brooklyn brownstone, a Maine farmhouse, a Nantucket whaling cottage, a 16th century stone farmhouse in France and a former sewing factory — all before she was 18. She earned her Masters of Architecture from Columbia where she won the Excellence in Design Award. Prior, she studied at Yale’s School of Architecture, received a BA, cum laude, from U. Penn, and studied painting and drawing at SACI in Italy. She has taught design at Columbia and Barnard Colleges and has served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Architecture at Pratt Institute.
