I have been associated with Cathy and the SGHC for many years. Cathy's commitment and dedication to earth friendly products and practices is an example all of us should try to follow. Bringing products to market that lower our carbon footprint and keep toxic materials out of our environment does not happen easily. It takes time and research to be sure a company is providing what they say. Large manufacturers have the ability to keep prices low and provide products that may not decompose for decades because they have deep pockets and are able to create marketing gimmicks that lead us to believe they are good stewards of our environment. From low VOC paints to recycled paper products you can be sure the SGHC has the right stuff at the right price.

Southwest Green Home Center is a local treasure. Our population is very focused on the environment, but we have very little in the way of resources here in Albuquerque. SWHC is the source for the materials that I want as an Architect to build with today.

This is always my first stop when starting a new project on our home!!! Cathy really knows her stuff and is happy to answer questions regarding eco-friendly paints, stains, adhesives, flooring, cleaners, water and energy efficiency items, and, and, and. We even bought a worm composter (works great!) to take care of our kitchen scraps. As a Home Energy Rater and Green Building Verifier, I work with builders and remodelers and regularly recommend that they stop by the store and talk to Cathy regarding products that meet green building or healthy home/indoor air quality standards - I often refer friends for advice/materials on their DIY projects too! Two biggest purchases thus far. First, paint and soy-based flooring for one room. Great quality and truly cutting-edge green product (soy flooring). Second (and biggest) project: Replaced icky carpet with cork flooring (at a great price) and bamboo stair treads/risers/landngs. Cathy guided us eco-flooring newbies through every stage of our lengthy selection process, providing many samples for us to test-drive at home, answering all our questions about various products and their applications -- even coming over to our house for a free consultation. We couldn't be happier with the result. Yes, the products are great, but the customer service may well be the best part of the experience of buying from Southwest Green Building Center! Plus "green" is not just a buzzword there, but a real commitment to offering the highest-quality products that are better for the planet, people and pets.
