My name is Gary Renfro and my business is building quality custom cabinetry and furniture. You may have heard a story of some old cabinetmaker way off in some distant mountain valley – well – the story is true. My shop is located at 10,000 feet in elevation and it is a fantastic place to work! There are no stoplights, honking horns, traffic congestion – just peace and quiet and lots of clean air and beautiful scenery. Taking a break from my work I often pick up my binoculars and look at bighorn sheep and an occasional elk on the high peaks. My clients are always invited to stop by the shop to view their project while it is being built. Alternative Woodworking is a business that grew out of what I believe is a necessity – offering people an “alternative” to fast track manufactured cabinetry and furniture. We offer a “hands-on” approach to woodworking. While many so-called “custom cabinet shops” outsource their doors, drawers, and even the cabinet boxes, Alternative Woodworking builds every part of every project in-house, ensuring that the quality is maintained from start to finish. Most manufactured cabinets are assembled with small dowels and staples but at Alternative Woodworking our cabinets are built much stronger using dadoes, glue, and screws creating a cabinet that will last. Our cabinetry boxes are built with ¾” thick material with ½” cabinet backs. Our drawers are all dovetailed 5/8” Baltic birch plywood or solid hardwoods. We use top quality European hardware including full or ¾ extension concealed soft-closing drawer slides. We also offer soft-closing hinges for smooth closing doors (no more banging cabinet doors). We offer adjustable, pullout soft closing shelving in our base cabinets and pantries. Our cabinets are finished with a very durable pre-catalyzed lacquer. Many of our projects are cooperative works between professional designers, owners and Alternative Woodworking. We are in the business of giving our clients what they are looking for in cabinetry and furniture. We are truly a custom shop and will build you anything you desire.
