The employees at Woodport Doors LLC are great and helpful to work with, as well as excellent customer service; the best that I have ever experienced. They were at the top of their game the entire way through the home renovation project and offered high quality door products. I’ve dealt with other home remodels and this seemed to be the best manufacturer we have ever dealt with. We had an issue with turnaround time with companies in the past and we noticed Woodport Doors LLC turnaround is one of the fastest in the industry. I would highly recommend them. Thank you Woodport Doors LLC for all you have done to make this home renovation project as seamless as possible.

Cracked veneers. I will be replacing my oak raised 4-panel Woodport doors after just 2 years - all 11 individual doors, 1 set of bifolds and 3 sets of 2 doors each. They were installed in my new home completed November 2013.
Watch your door warranty. Manufacturer date is stamped on the top of the doors. A couple of the door warranties were expired before I even took ownership of my new home.
03-31-16Mr. Wleklinski is being untruthful when he refers to making numerous visits to my home. I only ever met and spoke with Mr. Wleklinski ONE time when he accompanied a distributor representative to my home.
The first person that came to my home was a distributor representative. After reviewing all of the defects in my doors he said it appeared Woodport got a bad batch of panels and indicated that about 90% of my doors were defective. After consulting with Woodport, he called me back and told me the doors were not sealed according to Woodport specifications and then indicated that the doors were no longer under warranty, something that he should have known before he ever came to my home. At that time I called Woodport. I had difficulty finding someone to talk to as they were undergoing some reorganization. Eventually, I spoke with Mr. Wilcox at Woodport. He advised me to pursue the issue with my builder as he reiterated the doors were improperly sealed. As a result, I hired a lawyer. After the situation was presented to my builder via certified mail from my lawyer, he and his finisher requested to see the doors. They took many pictures. The following is the response my builder’s lawyer forwarded to my lawyer:
“…..my builder does not agree that the damage to the doors was caused by an improper seal. Rather, this damage is the result of a manufacturer's defect. In each door, the cracking occurs at or near the curvature of the interior panel. Such surface grain separation reflects an inherent defect in the door and is unrelated to the sealant applied by the builder. The builder has consulted other contractors and carpenters regarding this issue and they share its findings.”
After receiving this letter I not only spoke with Mr. Wilcox at Woodport, but the distributor representative’s supervisor. At that point, the distributor representative’s supervisor and a Woodport representative, Mr. Wleklinski, came to my home at my request as Woodport staff had never actually seen the damaged doors yet. Woodport staff has always been reluctant to come and see exactly what was going on. During this visit, Mr. Wleklinski did indicate to me that the doors can be refinished and are still functional. I priced refinishing the doors. Quotes ranged from $150 to $200 per door. It would be yet another mistake to spend this much to refinish the number of bad doors I have only to find they may still be unsatisfactory. I expressed that doors in a new home should be a thing of beauty rather than just serving a functional purpose. Cracked and delaminating veneers are not my idea of a quality door. If I wanted to settle for function I could have just purchased my doors at a discount chain. Follow-up correspondence with the distributor representative’s supervisor failed to support that the defects in my Woodport Doors were the result of improper sealing. It should be noted that I spent over $1000 on lawyer expenses based on distributor and Woodport’s accusations and then they would not stand behind what they said. So far, the distributor and Woodport reps have blamed the defective doors on the suppliers (panels), my builder (sealing) and now me, for not caring for my Woodport Doors appropriately, whatever that means. I humidify in the winter months with AprilAire and dehumidify in the summer months. I have all wood furniture, a tongue in groove ceiling in my family room, raised panel wainscoting, all of my furniture is wood, 5 rooms of hard wood floors and nothing else is having an issue.
The bottom line is, there is clearly an issue with my Woodport doors. I attempted to follow up with my Woodport contact, however, he wouldn’t take my phone calls. After calling Woodport about a dozen times (it started becoming very embarrassing), I contacted the distributor supervisor as a last resort. He reported my contact at Woodport had just called him and inquired why I was calling. If Woodport REALLY wants to work with their customers like they claim, he might want to consider just answering the phone. In fact, one of the times I called the receptionist said he was out on the floor dealing with a quality issue.
The bottom line is, there is clearly an issue with my Woodport doors. It really shouldn’t matter if the warranty is 1 or 2 years when the defects are so blatant. My particular situation has extenuating circumstances: I built my home so my aging father could come and live with me. After construction commenced, my father was diagnosed with cancer. He died in my new home in July 2014. Simply put, looking over my Woodport doors for defects was the last thing I had on my mind. Woodport did make me an offer to replace my doors with the vast expense of the replacement falling squarely back on me. They have to understand if I were to replace the doors I have to hire someone to remove the old doors, finish the new doors and then re-hang them. I am not naive. I fully understand I share some responsibility in this situation for not seeing and reporting the defects earlier, but I am done beating myself up for that. I am not making excuses. I had a full plate.
Picture:
1st picture: , Look on the left side of the door toward the bottom: the veneer “rolled” when they tried to insert it in the frame of the door.
2nd picture: Look at the right side of the door between the point where the panel is inserted into the door frame and the “rise” of the panel, the veneer split along the grains. It is 9 inches in length.
07-28-16: *Clarification* When Mr. Wleklinski states: "Our offers to help with replacements were also denied." , this does NOT mean they offered to replace them. This means they offered me a 25% discount toward new doors. This means I would have to pay an estimated $4,000 just to get the doors again and then still have to have them finished and installed.

I am sorry that Woodport was not able to resolve your concerns about our doors to your satisfaction. As we discussed during our numerous visits, the doors were not properly cared for and finished per Woodport specifications and outside our manufacturer's warranty period. Our offers to help with replacements were also denied. Please remember that while you are not happy with your doors, there are no structural defects that would prevent their normal functioning, and simply refinishing the doors would most likely resolve your concerns.
Thank you for the opportunity to work with you and we wish you well.

Jim Wleklinski
