AnChique

Hi, my name is Michelle and I’m the artist behind AnChique. Many years ago, my hobby turned into my career and I left behind my full time job to pursue my passion. In the beginning, I would learn techniques through trial and error. Along the way, I’ve met some wonderful and talented people who have inspired me , and have had the honour to train over the years with many talented artists. After learning about Annie Sloan and her wonderful paint that she developed called Chalk Paint™, I became a huge fan. I really looked up to her, and still remember the first time I met her at the Toronto Home Show, I was star struck! Becoming a stockist was an honour and I was thrilled to get to know her more over the years. I now can say she’s not only my mentor, but a friend. This past year, I closed my retail shop but continue to paint and repurpose furniture from my home in between the lakeside towns of Port Elgin and Southampton, Ontario. The name AnChique was thought of by my husband Michael who is a talented graphic designer and creative soul. It’s basically a play on what I do, my style and the age of my pieces. Early on, he pitched an idea to a local cable television channel and “AnChique It” was my first opportunity to have my own television show! Many of the people who have either trained with us or purchased pieces often are heard saying that we AnChiqued It, or will we AnChique it for them! I once overheard a customer telling her family “get them to paint it and you will have an AnChique piece in your home” wow, that was very humbling!
