“When Kiersten Hathcock first started Mod Mom Furniture, it was because she wanted an eco-friendly (and kid-friendly) toy box that looked good with the modern furniture in her family home. Once she realized that her vision, which included toybox lids that lifted on and off like puzzle pieces, so that cleaning up felt like fun, was easier dreamed than found, she decided to make them herself. After teaching herself to build furniture in her garage, she launched a website and mod parents who saw the snazzy toy storage solutions flocked to Mod Mom Furniture. Soon, celebrities and tastemakers like Rachel Zoe came knocking, and Hathcock realized that she had to move out of her garage, where she had been making each toy box herself, and into the big leagues.
