Scott Ernst Custom Woodworks

I asked Scott Ernst to make an odd size and design of shelf, and he created a beautiful product! He was very prompt and professional in all of his communications and did a wonderful job of finalizing the design. I will have him at the top of my list next time I need custom furniture.

I wanted to use the legs from an old table, and modernize the top, so I asked Scott if he could help me with the top. After a brief discussion as to what I wanted it to look like, Scott was able to expertly guide me to the type of wood that suited my aesthetic. My idea was to have a design down the middle of the table, like a runner, and I was grateful when Scott guided me toward a clean and efficient way to achieve that. He took care of selecting and gathering the lumber, including the different strips of wood for the "runner" design. He'd asked me to give him a drawing of the design, and, with no further ado, he "whipped" up a beautiful piece of art in what seemed like no time at all! In order to save money, I decided to finish the top myself. Scott patiently guided me through this process, his entire focus being to make sure the table would be as well made as possible, and for it to be able to last long into the future. I learnt so much from Scott throughout this process, and found him to be so generous, patient, and thoroughly masterful about his craft. He does it all with a great sense of humor, which makes working with him an absolute pleasure. I would highly recommend Scott for any custom woodworks you may have ever dreamed of, he'll be able to help you make it a reality for sure!

I have worked with Scott for many years on special commissions. My latest project with him was a commissioned wall-hung ledge desk for a small area in a loft in TriBeCa. The clients had purchased a pair of very beautiful mid-century bookshelves. It was Scott's job to build a desk that would stand up to the aesthetic and high quality of these pieces, but it had to function as well. The desk was constructed out of solid walnut, with a long drawer across the front and a subtle groove strategically place at the rear for computer cords, etc. The end result was a gem. Scott's skill and understanding of the art of woodworking is unsurpassed. But what sets him apart from many in his field is his extreme attention to detail and his ability to understand the aesthetic goal behind each commission.

Scot Ernst made me a custom desk--burled walnut in art deco style. I had loved his work ever since I was in college, and 10 years later, I was able to buy a piece for myself. He combined my love of art deco with a desire to incorporate a sense of femininity. The thought Scott puts into every design, things a layperson like myself would never think of, included: - Latch items to take the drawers off. The best part of this design is its longevity. The drawers can be tipped up or down on either side to account for the wood expanding due to humidity and age. - Instructions on how to take the desk apart for ease of moving underneath the keyboard tray because Scott knows how often I move. There are other items that make this desk wonderful, but it's the things that no one would ever consider that are what set Scott apart.
