My wife and I purchased a small Mission Hills cottage in 2016 that was close to 100 years old and had been modified and added to a few times over the years, but desperately needed updating. We searched and found an architect whose work we admired, and started planning. Realizing we had no idea of what it would cost to do what we wanted, our architect recommended Eric Epifano to us, a boots-on-the-ground contractor, to give us an accurate idea of what the build would entail. We met with Eric and went over things in detail, pretty much from square one. We admired his demeanor from the start: he comes across very straightforwardly, and he is easy to talk to. His experience in the construction game is obvious--he can look at plans and consider ideas and let you know where the problem areas are, what the challenges will be, and most importantly, where you are going to spend your money.
Long story short, we ended up parting ways with our architect, but kept Eric on board. He actually recommended a new architect to us, who ended up taking our project and moving it in another direction. What was originally going to be an extensive floorplan change and remodel ended up becoming a complete tear-down and rebuild from the ground up. A two-story, 3000 square feet, beautiful indoor-outdoor living space. Eric was instrumental in helping guide our vision through this process, and could always tell us how ideas translated to the real world, in both practicality and price tag.
Our home ended up taking a little over a year to build, in 2017-2018, when the construction business was going crazy in San Diego. We noticed immediately that Eric is well-connected in the industry, and has a stable of sub-contractors that he has worked with for years. He treats them well and they want to work for him. It cannot be underestimated how important this is. One bad subcontractor can ruin a lot of people's days. Of particular note, Eric's subs for foundation work, framing, electrical, HVAC, and roofing are consummate pros. His tile-setter and flooring subs are the best in the business and did gorgeous work for us. When we brought on an interior design team, Eric was able to incorporate their input seamlessly, and the communication between all involved was first rate.
Eric is well-versed with permitting and city inspectors. He anticipates and clears those hurdles before issues arise. His budgeting process and financial documentation are well thought-out and simple to understand and follow. You always know where you stand and where your money has gone and what your cost to completion is.
It would be naive to think that a year-long, $1M-plus project would go down like peaches and cream, but when there were problems (and there assuredly were), Eric always owned them. So many in the construction business will try to pass the buck and blame someone else. This was never our experience. We honestly don't know how Eric manages to keep calm and carry on when issues that are clearly not his fault arise, but he does. He listens, he understands, and he makes it right. He sincerely wants his client to be pleased with the result. And we think that is ultimately the most important thing. He is the best in the business and you cannot go wrong bringing him onto your job. Unqualified 5-Star recommendation.

Eric remodeled my home in La Jolla Shores this past year. I loved working with Eric! He is reliable and honest. My project was done on time and within budget. Eric made the experience a joy. I would be happy to do another project with him.

Substantial remodel of 2900 sq ft multi-level built in 1986. Major components: adding 420 sq ft master BR above garage and seamlessly tying it to existing upper floor; removal of 2 load bearing columns on middle floor and substituting longer, bigger dimension wooden beams for existing exposed beams which had depended on the columns; expanding kitchen and nook by about 75sq ft by moving exterior wall and then completely redoing kitchen.
The contractor was honest, straightforward and easy to work with and talk to. He kept very good records and had a very logical, clear system for project status, billing and change orders. We were happy with almost all the contractor's choices of subcontractors. And he took responsibility for their work. He had a good attitude toward the role of the building inspector -- we are all working toward the same goal-- and there were no inspection related delays. The contractor was slightly on the optimistic side when it came to predicting how long things would take, but that may be a sanity-preserving trait in this business.

It's easy to see why homeowners would want Eric for their projects -- he is a thorough professional who knows his craft very well, an ease to work with, and a honest and sincere guy. Eric's professionalism and work speaks for themselves; if we cross paths again, we certainly wouldn't turn down the opportunity to work with Eric on other projects.

Eric was recommended to me by a close friend whose new house was near completion. My friend took me to see his house and I liked the quality of the work, however I was most impressed by how happy my friend was with Eric.
When I met Eric I immediately liked him. He was not some bs artist trying "too hard" to be your friend. He was an honest, hard working, family guy, someone I could identify with. After getting to know each other we started talking about my project. To be honest I wasn't sure if Eric could pull it off because this was a very high end custom home in the Coronado Cays. You have to deal with a tough hoa, ocean retaining walls and the issue of working with the ocean tides when it came to foundation work, limited spacing, very demanding environmental restrictions, and most importantly a demanding customer who knew what he wanted and had been around the block a few times. He helped out his case by helping me get some permits with the city and hoa that I had been struggling to get.
After a few meetings and going over construction drawings Eric came back at me with a number and a plan. I liked his number and we were able to make the plan work for both parties. The highest compliment I think I can pay Eric is that he is a man of his word. The number and negotiation we agreed to was the number and reality that I received. I was not cheated. I know Eric gave the project his all. At the end of the day he did what he said he was going to do.
Obviously not everything was perfect, but when an issue did arise Eric accepted responsibility and made sure the problem was fixed. Its a construction site, you have several trades going at the same time, all types of people, etc and as you would expect, things come up. What I liked about Eric is that he made my problem his problem and went out and took care of it.
We worked with a designer on this project and Eric was able to work well with the designers to get me the look and gadgets I wanted. We used very high end woods, stones, appliances, and electronics throughout the house. Eric coordinated the whole shebang. I, as the owner, was definitely involved as well, wanting to make sure the house was just right. However, when you hire a general contractor you are looking for someone to solve your problems, not cause more.
He is there, he is involved. If he has to he'll do it himself to get it done. He doesn't charge and arm and a leg, and he's a good guy. I would recommend him without thinking twice about it. He has worked on several types of homes and on different sized budgets. When he did my home I believe it was the most expensive custom home project he had worked on, I was a little worried at first, but I soon saw he was able to handle it.

Use Eric! He does what he says he will do. His workers are terrific. He finished the job within our expectations for both timeline and budget. We tore down a 1,000 sq. ft. older one story home and rebuilt a 2,660 sq. ft. two story new home. Eric was our General Contractor. Eric worked well with our architect and engineer to reduce costs and streamline the construction process. Most of Eric's subcontractors have worked with him for years and know each other. They were friendly, usually prompt and very well coordinated. Eric's crews called us or our architect/engineer whenever they had a question about the plans. They were responsive to our suggestions and frequently asked for our input. They offered us alternatives as to how to get the look we wanted. Overall Eric was delightful to work with and solved problems as they arose. He was patient and polite in working with City of San Diego inspectors.

Over the past several years, we have hired Eric Epifano for a wide variety of remodeling and repair projects at our home in La Jolla, including roofing, gutters, window replacements, stuccoing, furnace inspection/repair. Eric is a first-rate general contractor. He employs the very best subs available. He is always on schedule and on budget. No matter how big or small the job, Eric responds quickly and always gets the job done right. We have recommended Eric to other property owners -- residential and commercial -- and they rave about his professionalism and attention to detail. We would never think of hiring any other general contractor than Eric Epifano. As well, he has a terrific sense of humor.

Very complete work. Knows how to find the best subcontractors in San Diego. Professional foreman and crew. Eric took a personal interest and checked on progress frequently as well as his crew manager Chad. Were able to make modifications as we went along. We added two rooms, bathroom and rooftop deck as well as outdoor shower and refinishing some stuff that was already in progress. the project did take longer than originally anticipated, but since we did make modifications,, I was not too surprised
