State Building Company

I don’t leave bad reviews about very many companies or products, but this one I can’t help. We had an addition put in our house by State Building Company in Davison. The addition was 20’ by 20’. It was on a slab so no basement. There was no plumbing and I did the painting, flooring and trim. State Building told us it would take one, maybe two months. They started in November of 2021. They just finished in February of 2023. . . 14 months to do a 20’ by 20’ addition. We had to live in a house under construction for 14 months. When my wife and I first started talking about doing the addition, I considered doing the contracting myself to save money, but half joking, we decided “no, we don’t want it to take a year.” Well, I could have done the Contracting and saved the money, and if it took a year, it would have still been done faster. There were actual months that went by where no one showed up to work, and no contact from State Building. I sent an email to their office in August of ‘22 asking why it was taking so long. I got a reply saying the owner Scott would look into it and figure out how to rectify it. But then it still took another 6 months after that to finish a one to two month job. I would think State would have offered us some sort of compensation after dragging this on for such a ridiculously long time, but no, they got to walk away with the price stated on the contract we signed while we had live for 14 months, angry, with a half done addition. Just a word of warning if you are thinking of having any home improvements done in the Genessee County area. I wouldn’t recommend State Building Company.

When a tree fell on our house, We did not know what to do. We had several building companies stop and leaving their business cards. Saying they could patch the damage, just give them a call. Felt like pushy sales men, looking for a quick buck! Scott from State Building Company treated us like family. He asked how we were doing, took the time to look at our house, outside and inside, up in the rafters. He explained the process that we're about to go through with the Insurance company. Told us he would handle it and not to worry. Asked us what we wanted, not what he was going to do. Worked with us on every aspect of putting our house back together, the way we wanted. Not the way insurance just wanted to patch it. State Building Company is who we call when we need something done right!

Great experience. Did work in very challenging circumstances and workers were good natured and professional. Highly recommend them. Have 2 more upcoming projects that I plan on using them for.

Mike Root of State Builders is a true professional. We just had a new facade and new garage doors installed. Mike coordinated everything between his builders and the door company. He communicated with us; did the job on time,and for the price agreed on. It's not easy to find a company, in the trades, with representatives like that. We will continue to do business with them in the future.

I found Mike Root to be knowledgeable about my roofing issue and he shared information that helped me to understand the solution he offered. I would go to State Building again in the future for home improvements.

I had the second bathroom redone, my Mom could not lift her leg over the tub to get in. Mike came out from State Building and we made a plan to take out the tub and put in a walk-in shower and all new tile in the shower and floors. They were very respectful and nice to have in your home. They also did good dealing with my Mom. Their work was excellant. They also put ceramic tile in the kitchen,straight grout lines, it's beautiful. They also did a stone mback splash and tile by the entry and baack door. If any doubt they always asked. Everyone who comes over always comments on the workmanship and how lovely it looks. Great job!!
