Birmingham Hardwood Flooring

It is really all about the installers they send to do the job. The ones they sent us could have cared less. Excessive staples that glistened as the sunlight hit the floor. Excessive use of short boards and split boards which made the job look cheap. I ultimately only paid them half of the amount due because the work was so poor and, you know what? They accepted half because they knew it was a mess and they had no intention of fixing it. I told them I would pay the whole bill if they used my job as their show home for all future jobs - they declined. Surprise.

We had new hardwood flooring installed in the bedroom. Then they sanded all of the hardwoods in our home and stained them to all to one stain. They also converted our stairs from carpet to hardwood. Everything turned out beautiful! I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

Installed new kitchen floor that is feathered into an existing floor in the foyer and sanded and refinished old floors, all to match. On the positive side, you cannot see where the new joins the old. The stain and final finish are nice. On the negative side, the center of the living room floor and about 12 feet in the foyer have a rippled appearance due to improper sanding. There are also places where the floor sanded by hand meets the floor sanded by the drum sander that are uneven. That is, the hand sanded is slightly higher that the drum sanded area. There are some small bubbles or grit in the final finish that are not visible to the casual observer but they are to me and the previous finish had none. I also found a few spots where there was a excess of urethane that appears to have come from a buildup on the applicator that was not removed before applying the final finish to the floor. When installing the floor, an excessive number of staples were used on the first board installed to match the old floor. If the installer had paid closer attention, he could have applied the staples to areas of darker grain making them virtually invisible. But some are in the lighter areas and are quite noticeable. I received a bill after the job was completed but no one came to check the final product to see that the floors were finished properly. I did check a previous customer's floors before hiring Birmingham and saw no problems with that job. However, those floors were darker and the finish was very dull so that imperfections were not visible. The photos do not show the extent of the rippling due to the light shining across the floor. The photo of the staples illustrate my comment about placement.
